District Convention Newsbreak
Beryl O. Monkee and DG Eric Ahlbrand (Beryl is on the left) |

This photo was taken
As a consultant, Beryl is expected to be quite valuable. He certainly is at home with trees, currently an International Project. He will be accompanying DG Eric to different locations around the District, and photos will be posted on our Facebook page as they become available. So "like" our Facebook page in order to participate. If you think you know where Beryl O. Monkee is in these photos, submit your answer at the District 25-C Convention. The first Lion to correctly guess the location, where each photo was taken will win a prize, which will be awarded at the Convention. If you think you know where Beryl O. Monkee is in these photos, bring your guesses to the Convention. Prizes for correct answers. Hint - rumor has it that Beryl will be participating in the next official DG visit to Frankfort. Beryl requested to go—something about “monkey business”. Beryl has also expressed interest in being at the District Convention, where he will consider offering his services to the highest bidder. It could be a really swinging convention—but more on that later. To reach Facebook click on the link, or return to the home page of the District Website, and scroll down until you see the facebook logo. Click on the logo. Click on "Like" beneath the photo.

KidSight Screening
Dear 25C Preschool Vision Screeners,
I’m writing with 4 purposes in mind. First, the S08 camera system we use in 25C has been scheduled for the following dates: · February 7 and 8, 2012 · March 16 thru March 22, 2012 · August 27 thru August 31, 2012 · September 16 thru September 28, 2012
Second, if you are looking to locate potential new screening sites go to the website: www.childcarefinder.in.gov and click on the tab “Locate Child Care/See Inspection Reports”. You can search by county, city or zip code (see attachment). Third, Janice Chapman, State Program Coordinator KidSight sent me an email (see e-mail attachment) concerning children who may be screened with our KidSight S08 camera, basically preschoolers ages 18 months thru 6 years of age. I called her to CONFIRM that while our S08 camera is NOT to be used with school age screenings; IT CAN BE USED TO SCREEN VISION AT KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UPS. Our S08 system is NOT configured for grades 1,2,3,and up. Fourth, in the most recent issue of our Lions Magazine (February 2012), the article “Sight Savers” on pages 24-26 deals with preschool vision screenings. Our own Janice Chapman is featured on page 26. Keep up the good work with Operation KidSight screenings; your service is a tremendous blessing to Hoosier preschoolers. Yours truly in Lionism, Mike Joyce Clinton Lions Club 765-832-9232 Way to go Lion Mike!!!

The Super Bowl is coming to Indianapolis! Exciting for sports fans, as well all of the surrounding communities. The Town of Zionsville signed up to be a Super Celebration site and agreed to help host the 170,000 guests that are expected to descend on Indianapolis for the big game. The town needed help. They turned to the Zionsville Lions, for use of the park, but more importantly the 130 members who could serve as hosts and helpers. Lions Park will turn into a Winter Wonderland during the weekend of the Super Bowl (February 3-5). It'll be offering ice skating and a downhill toboggan run (80 feet). The park Gazebo will be a warming hut, and will include a S'mores pit and a place to get hot chocolate. The Super Bowl coming to Indianapolis will be Super fun, and the Zionsville Lions are hoping to make it a special time for those who visit our community. Proceeds of the Winter Fest will go to support projects that the Lions serve. Join your fellow Lions in Zionsville for some winter fun at this weekend "carnival." For details contact Lion President Richard McKellar or the webmaster |

MidWinter Conference Susie Wollenwweber provided CART Services for the Saturday afternoon session of the MidWinter Conference. The Service was jointly sponsored by the Indiana Lions Speech and Hearing and Relay Indiana. These organizations are considering whether to make the CART Service a part of meetings such as MidWinter Conference. If you have comments you would care to share, please contact the webmaster. |
|
MidWinter Conference Susie Wollenweber typed away the entire afternoon to ensure that the remarks of the speakers, and in many cases questions from the audience, were available in text immediately. Since about 1/3 of the Lions have a hearing problems this was a significant step to testing the benefits of captioned presentations. Responses from attendees were positive and will be used to determine in captioning should be used in the future. If you have comments on real time captioning please send them to the webmaster. |
